Motian & More is a heartfelt homage to drummer and composer Paul Motian, whose influence resonates deeply with bassist Hernâni Faustino, the group’s founder. Joined by saxophonist José Lencastre, guitarist Pedro Branco, and drummer João Sousa, the quartet draws inspiration from Motian’s lyrical and atmospheric style, channeling it through their own voices. The live recording captures the group’s chemistry and shared reverence for Motian’s legacy, beginning fittingly with Thelonious Monk’s “Misterioso.” This project is a celebration of creative freedom, melodic mystery, and joyful collaboration.
